Call on Congress to Protect Creation with a
World War II-scale Climate Mobilization

Rejoice! Pope Francis will soon visit the United States and speak to Congress. This Fall, citizens will hold actions across the country demanding an immediate, WWII-scale "ecological conversion." Civic and spiritual leaders will read from the Pope’s Encyclical and sign the Pledge to Mobilize, which calls for an emergency Climate Mobilization on the scale of World War II.

Mobilizing America to Save Civilization

Channeling the Power of the Pope’s Encyclical
through the Pledge to Mobilize Strategy

The Pope calls on each of us to undertake an “ecological conversion” to protect humanity and the natural world — Creation — from climate catastrophe. He also calls for the “ecological conversion” of civilization.

The Pledge to Mobilize is a tool to achieve this ecological conversion — on the individual and national level.

The Pledge to Mobilize calls on the federal government to convert the American economy to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2025 through an emergency, WWII-scale mobilization.

When Individuals take the Pledge, they commit their time, money, and vote to achieving this goal. Most importantly, they commit to spreading the Pledge to others—to spreading the ecological conversion.

THE ENYCLICAL & THE PLEDGE
TO MOBILIZE BOTH CALL FOR:

In "Laudato Si," Pope Francis writes: “There is an urgent need to develop policies so that, in the next few years, the emission of carbon dioxide and other highly polluting gases can be drastically reduced, for example, substituting for fossil fuels and developing sources of renewable energy.”

The Pledge’s calls for zero net greenhouse gas emissions in the United States by 2025 and globally by 2030 are quite compatible with the Pope’s demand.

Pope Francis calls on us “to replace consumption with sacrifice, greed with generosity, wastefulness with a spirit of sharing.” He calls on us to participate in the regeneration of our planet, “It only takes one person to restore hope!”

Similarly, The Pledge to Mobilize calls on every American to help make the climate mobilization a reality, and for a spirit of “shared sacrifice” during the Climate Mobilization.

In "Laudato Si," Pope Francis emphasizes the dignity of meaningful employment: “Work should be the setting for this rich personal growth, where many aspects of life enter into play: creativity, planning for the future, developing our talents, living out our values, relating to others, giving glory to God. It follows that, in the reality of today’s global society, it is essential that ‘we continue to prioritize the goal of access to steady employment for everyone,’ no matter the limited interests of business and dubious economic reasoning.”

The Pledge to Mobilize calls for governments to institute full employment policies. Since there is a Pledge available for every country, the Climate Mobilization, if enacted across the world, would lead to global full employment. This would likely require a job guarantee, with governments acting as the employer-of-last resort.

Pope Francis calls on every one of us “to dare to turn what is happening to the world into our own personal suffering and thus to discover what each of us can do about it.” We must repent for our sins against Creation, our common home, and undergo an ecological conversion of the spirit, which must then be extended to society-at-large through civic and political action because “…The ecological conversion needed to bring about lasting change is also a community conversion.”

The Pledge to Mobilize is an acknowledgement that no one is going to “save us” from climate change. It is our responsibility, and our moral duty to fight for civilization and the natural world.

Host’s Guide

The Pledge to Mobilize is a tool to achieve this ecological conversion—on the individual and national level.

The Pledge to Mobilize calls on the federal government to rapidly transform our economy and society to carbon neutrality at emergency speed. We need the same level of focus, courage, and shared purpose that we had during WWII, if we are going to save civilization and the natural world from climate catastrophe.

When Individuals take the Pledge, they commit their time, money, and vote to achieving this goal. Most importantly, they commit to spreading the Pledge to others—to spreading ecological conversion.
